15 Modular Kitchens Supplied to Bahrain International Circuit

The iconic Bahrain International Circuit Formula 1 venue was the first in the Middle East and has built an illustrious history since it was opened in 2004.

In addition to F1,  the circuit hosts other motorsport experiences, as well as large conferences, business meetings and weddings. The variety of happenings at the circuit and the growth in popularity of those events created an issue however, the kitchens in the team buildings located in the BIC Paddock were too small to deal with the increasing demand.

When the circuit asked for suggestions to improve the Paddock experience, chefs from the F1 teams put additional kitchen space at the top of their wish list.

The team buildings’ robust construction made extension or adaptation a difficult option, and with no space to expand inside, the circuit turned its attention to modular buildings, and to PKL.

After a competitive tendering process, PKL were delighted to receive a letter from BIC Chief Executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa confirming the award of the contract to supply 15 modular kitchens and prep rooms for the circuit.

Built and prepared at PKL’s Cheltenham base and the modular kitchens were delivered in December of 2018, and were installed and operational with added white external canopies to match the rest of the circuit, in time for the 2019 Bahrain Grand Prix.

They were kept as a surprise for the F1 teams’ chefs!

Samantha Semaan, Circuit Operations Director said: “We decided to give the chefs a little surprise by simply giving them the keys to the kitchens, and not telling them what to expect! The teams loved them.

“The units were the right solution for us and have added significantly to the teams’ catering capacity. We also have the option of moving the units if we ever need to use that space in the paddock.

“PKL have given us positive guidance, been proactive and professional, and have helped us to find the right solution.”
